A “QUIET” REVOLUTION IN HEALING
Mr. Hubbard’s discoveries concerning the reactive mind – and specifically the crucial finding that an unconscious person continues to record all of the sounds, smells, pains and conversation and other events which are taking place around him – proved very influential in the realm of traditional familial and surgical medicine. Unheard of when first described in Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health – and even met with disdain from some – decades later, this fundamental Dianetics principle has led to silence in operating rooms in many countries. A half-century ago, surgeons believed that an unconscious patient was incapable of perceiving or recording anything and operating rooms were often filled with needless chatter. But as the principles of Dianetics circulated through society, surgical procedures evolved... and surgeons were urged to speak only when absolutely necessary.
These observations also left an indelible mark on the field of emergency medicine.
