THE BONA FIDES OF THE SCIENTOLOGY RELIGION

In addition to ruling favorably on tax exemption, the IRS rulings make all donations to all United States churches of Scientology deductible against personal United States income taxes to the full extent permitted by law.

Although the IRS decision was the most significant recognition of the Scientology religion, it was by no means the first or last government confirmation of the Church’s status. That conclusion has been echoed again and again by courts and government agencies everywhere.

Earlier, on January 19, 1983, in Founding Church of Scientology of Washington, DC v. Director, Federal Bureau of Investigation, the United States District Court, District of Columbia, ruled:

“The Church of Scientology must be treated the same as any established religion or denominational sect within the United States, Catholic, Protestant or other.”
