THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SCIENTOLOGISTS

In Frankfurt, Germany, members of the International Association of Scientologists joined religious leaders from around the world to take a stand for religious freedom. Such actions are helping produce a climate in countries throughout Europe where people of all religious denominations can freely practice their faiths.

An example of the impact of IAS support are the actions of an IAS member and educator in the United Kingdom. In 1994, with the help of IAS grants, she started bringing Mr. Hubbard’s study technology to the country of Zimbabwe. By late 1996 an entire town had adopted this technology throughout its school system.

With additional IAS support over the following year, she began training teachers in one African school district. In coordination with officials of the Ministry of Education at both local and national levels, she brought L. Ron Hubbard’s study technology to every school in that district. All one thousand teachers are now trained in it, use it every day and benefit more than thirty thousand students in seventy-eight schools.

The IAS has also provided support to the World Literacy Crusade, a program established in Compton, California in 1992 to bring L. Ron Hubbard’s study technology to the inner cities. The program has since grown to thirty chapters worldwide, including to other cities in the United States, and Great Britain, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The Association provided support to help establish the Compton Project as a model chapter, greatly assisting the expansion of the World Literacy Crusade by enabling it to train others and open new chapters elsewhere.

On a similar note, the IAS has sponsored the Hollywood Education and Literacy Project (HELP), a program which provides one-on-one mentoring and tutoring, delivering full reading and writing programs which utilize L. Ron Hubbard’s study technology. Individuals unable to read when they arrived at the program are able to read and write with only a few weeks of tutoring.
